Get to Know Peti…
Peti Lau’s approach to interior design is rooted in storytelling, informed by her unique perspective on art and global travel. Each project is imbued with a sense of discovery, gradually revealing an intricate narrative about the client’s tastes, desires, and legacy. Peti brings 20 years of experience to her eponymous firm design firm, which services bicoastal clients from its headquarters in the heart of the La Cienega Design District in Los Angeles.
Her high-touch approach ensures clients feel confident about design decisions, timelines, and budget every step of the way. Identifying meaningful art for the home is a key part of her process, and Lau works with experienced collectors as well as clients new to the practice. Her expertise is informed by travel to the world’s most significant art shows and fairs, including Frieze, Salone del Mobile, the Shanghai Art Fair, Art Basel & Design Miami, and the Venice Biennale.
Lau’s style is characterized by clean lines softened with lush textures and thoughtful touches, for homes that feel sumptuous yet carefully balanced. She is known for attentive sourcing; Lau taps into an extensive network of artists, makers and vendors she’s cultivated across the globe to specify premium quality and custom pieces that surprise and delight, often mixing antiques and unique contemporary finds.
For Peti Lau, design is a calling. After past lives as an opera singer, a restaurateur and an entrepreneur, she discovered a natural talent for design when the opportunity emerged to work on projects in Thailand and Mauritius. To hone her skills, Peti moved to New York City to attend the New York School of Interior Design and pursued additional coursework in London. Today, she leverages 20 years of practicing design experience to develop nuanced projects rich with nods to iconic motifs, notable time periods, and cultural references. She was presented with the NYSID Rising Star award in 2023 and serves as a mentor for current students today.
Lau is a member of the Design Leadership Network, a West Coast co-founder of the AAPI Design Alliance, and a board member for Design LA. In this latter role, she advocates for Asian American and Pacific Islander interior designers and students, developing mentorship opportunities and driving community engagement. Her projects and industry insights have been featured in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Interiors, 1stDibs’ Introspective Magazine, House Beautiful, LUXE Interiors+Design, Modern Luxury, The Wall Street Journal,Television Networks HGTV/Discovery + and more.
